Choose one warm base
Pick a single off-white with a yellow or pink undertone and repeat it on the walls, the trim and the largest cabinet run. Consistency at this scale is what makes everything layered on top feel deliberate.
Add texture before you add colour
Unlacquered brass, raw oak, waxed linen and unglazed clay do more for a neutral room than any accent shade. They catch light differently through the day, so the kitchen changes character between breakfast and dinner.
Once the textures are in place, one earthy accent — terracotta, olive, mustard — is plenty.
Let it age
A wooden board that has darkened, a pan with a patina, a linen cloth that has softened in the wash. These are the details that keep a calm kitchen from looking like a showroom.
